How to Measure Your Windows for Cellular Shades
Before you start measuring your window for your new cellular shades, you’ll want to figure out if you want to hang your shades in the inside of your window’s frame, or the outside of your window’s frame. We usually hang shades in the inside mount, we believe these provide a cleaner look. However, outside mounted shades cover more area and filter out the light more efficiently then inside mounted shades.
Measuring for Inside Mounted Shades:
When measuring for the inside mount, start by measuring the opening at the top, middle and bottom. We always recommend that you measure twice and to the nearest 1/8″ and use a steel tape measure. After you complete this, circle the narrowest width and height and these are the dimensions of your window that you will use for ordering.
Something to keep in mind when you’re ordering online is that most online retailers will take deductions for you. This is something that you might want to double check before you make your order online.
Measuring for Outside Mounted Shades:
When you are finding the width and the height for outside mounted shades, measure to the outermost points. Measure at least twice, then add an extra 1 1/2″ to 3″ on the sides, top and bottom of the window. Please not that online retailers typically do not add with or height, this is something that you must complete.
